Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee genuinely enjoyed spending time with each other since they had immense mutual respect for their philosophy of life and skills. They both met each other at the 1967 All American Karate Open Championships held at Madison Square Garden. This was when Lee demonstrated his talents, and Norris won the competition.
Norris and Lee started communicating about their fighting philosophies which led to a corridor sparring session until 4 am. It’s downright essential to form a friendship after a first meeting like that, and that is precisely what happened. They frequently met in Los Angeles for the next two years to practice in Bruce Lee’s backyard, but this ended when Lee moved back to Hong Kong to kick-start (literally) his career on the big screen.
Both, however, seemed to remember each other in good memories. Years later, Norris looked for a fierce on-screen opponent for an upcoming movie. This was when he picked up the phone and decided to call his old buddy for a film titled The Way of the Dragon; the rest, as people say, is history.
