Facts about the Most Powerful Jedi

1 Yoda

It’s no surprise that Yoda comes in at number one on our list of most powerful Jedi in the Star Wars universe. Yoda would end up training many of the Jedi on our top ten list. In the end, without Yoda, many of the other Jedi would never have gained the force that they did. The leader of the Jedi Council, and the Master of the Jedi Order, Yoda was really in a league of his own. Although his mastery of the lightsaber and the force was insurmountable, he devoted his life to teaching, rather than to gain power.

2 Luke Skywalker

Let’s face it, Luke Skywalker was truly one of the greatest, most powerful Jedi in the Star Wars Universe. Obi-Wan Kenobi’s apprentice, Luke Skywalker would become a true hero of the Republic. Amongst Luke’s accomplishments: he destroyed the first Death Star and he duelled his father, Darth Vader.

It was during this duel that he would be asked to join the Dark side, however, Luke refused. Angered by his answer, Senator Palpatine attempted to kill Luke. Vader saved his own son by killing Palpatine, and in the process, by killing himself too. Luke later founded the New Jedi Order.

3 Mace Windu

Mace Windu comes in at number 3 on our list, because he was an exceptional master with the lightsaber. He practiced the style of lightsaber fighting known as Vaapad, and was the only one to use this style of fighting and not fall to the dark side. Mace Windu was the master of the Jedi order, and would remain as such until the Battle of Genosis. The night that Mace Windu went to capture the Senator Palpatine, he would be betrayed by Anakin Skywalker. It was during this betrayal that Windu died.

4 Obi-Wan Kenobi

Played by the great Ewan McGregor in the films, Obi-Wan Kenobi was one of the most important figures in the Star Wars Universe. Learning under the training of Yoda and Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan would late rtrain Anakin and Luke Skywalker, among other powerful Jedi. Obi-Wan would be the first man in 1,000 years to defeat a Sith Lord, when he beat Darth Maul.

Obi-Wan would also kill General Grievous. Unfortunately, Kenobi would not see the evil potential of Anakin Skywalker, who he spared during a combat. Kenobi met his match in Darth Vader, who would kill him during a duel. But Kenobi continued to guide Luke after his death.

5 Anakin Skywalker

Anakin comes in at number five on our list. One of those household Star Wars names, Anakin was a pretty notorious Jedi. We started out by watching the young Anakin grow into one of the greatest Jedi of his time. Unfortunately, Anakin had a bit of a temper. This started to become a big problem during the Clone Wars, pushing him towards the dark side.

In one of Anakin’s visions, he saw his wife die in childbirth. Obsessed with the need to save her, Palpatine would manipulate Anakin, telling him that to save his wife, he would have to become Palpatine’s apprentice. Anakin would then become Darth Vader. Anakin’s death showed the las of the Jedi left in him, since he was ultimately good at heart.

6 Nomi Sunrider

Coming in at number six on our list is Nomi Sunrider, a badass female Jedi. Although many thought that women couldn’t join the world of the Jedi, Nomi proved them wrong. Married to Andur Sunrider, a Jedi in training, Andur was sadly killed by Bogga the Hutt’s soldiers.

It was at this point that Nomi took matters into her own hands, picking up her husband’s lightsaber, and becoming a Jedi on her own. Nomi would go on to becomea Jedi Knight. One of Nomi Sunrider’s greatest battles was when she defeated the great and powerful Sith Lord Exar Kun, and his apprentice, Qel-Droma, during the Great Sith War.

Ki-Adi Mundi comes in at number 7 on our list. Known as a fighter with many different skills, Mundi was a Cerean. He was truly loved by the whole Jedi Council. He was also a big peace advocate, and wanted independence for his hometown of Cerea.

Jedi were actually known as peace keepers first and foremost, fighting only in order to keep the peace. At the Battle of Cerea, Mundi saw his entire family killed. Yet this didn’t make him join the dark side. He became astronger Jedi after the death of his family, and led many attacks on the Droid Fondries.

8 Plo Koon

Koon could beat or match almost all saber fighters in the Star Wars universe. Truly a lightsaber master, Koon started out as a Jedi Guardian, but eventually became a Jedi General. Known by many as “The Hero of the Republic”, Koon was not only awesome with his lightsaber, but he was also a notable pilot. However, Senator Palpatine implemented Order 66, which changed the clones and forced them to turn on the Jedi. This is how Plo Koon eventually died.

9 Jacen Solo

Before Jacen Solo turned evil, he was actually an incredible Jedi. Jacen had a twin sister, Jaina. Both were assassination targets, because of their parents: Han Solo and Leia. Jacen Solo trained with his uncle, Luke Skywalker, and became a very powerful Jedi. He began his training at age 13, allowing him to grasp the Force very early on.

Although he started out as being a peaceful Jedi, the ravages of war made him completely change his use of the Force. After being captured by the ennemy, Jacen went over to the dark side. After having had a vision that he would kill his uncle, Luke, and that the galaxy would be destroyed, unless he joined the Sith, Jacen Solo joined the dark side to save his family and his universe.

10 Kit Fisto

Okay, so maybe he isn’t the best looking Jedi, but he sure was powerful! Kit Fisto was a Nautolan Jedi master, during the final years of the Galactic Republic. He also participated in the Battle of Geonosis, and was one of the few survivors. Fisto is probably most famous for coming extremely close to killing General Grievous. He also has an impressive underwater fighting ability, which has given him the upper hand in many situations. Kit Fisto was killed when he and Mace Windy went to arrest the evil Senator Palpatine.

More Jedi Fun Facts

Did you know that Yoda was not only one of the most powerful Jedi, but he was also extremely humble, never seeking recognition or fame? During his battle with the great Darth Sidious, Yoda had a vision that he was meant to train the great Luke Skywalker.

In order to survive his battle with Sidious, he would purposefully fail it, so that he could go on to fulfill his vision. In need of no glory, Yoda truly believed in his role as teacher, rather than being the hero of Star Wars. Another cool fact? Yoda was a puppet, played by the puppeteer Frank Oz in episodes I, V-Vi. He was also voiced by seven different voice actors in various films and television shows.
